2020 PRAISE REPORT

2020 PRAISE REPORT

As we close out the year, we want to reflect with you on God's work through Align and our BPC Partners in Uganda. Millie Ojera sent us the following update:

Here are some praise reports for our communities in the year 2020:

1. We had awesome P7 candidate national exam results, declaring Donela 6th best in the Luweero province, and best in the town of Bombo!

2. We were blessed by COVID relief food for our clients and communities - a miracle that took us through that tough season.

3. We received five months of half-salaries which were miraculously provided by Peninsula Community Church for all of our staff. Otherwise our teachers would have received nothing as we had no monies coming in to pay them.

4. We have maintained good health in our communities overall, whereby no alarming COVID infections have spread among us. The three families that were infected have since fully healed.

5. We were blessed with the babies born to us:
* Baby Tamara to Pastor Angello and Jenny in Kakooge who miraculously made it out of hospital during lockdown after the baby was born!

* Baby Raphael to Rose, Align Staff in Bombo

* Baby Selah to Jessica, Life With Hope team leader in Wobulenzi

6. We were able to perform the weddings of:
*Diana Dipio and Gerald Masereka
*Emma and Rachel

6. We enjoyed God's divine protection during a gruesome accident Alex and Millie were involved in.

7. We were able to successfully re-open Donela for P7 and S4 candidates.

8. The Life Homes Warden's Residence is being built, and almost habitable.

9. We were able to re-open church in our new, incomplete auditorium. Completed the floor, without which our former meeting place was not eligible for use by COVID standards. Every Sunday, God spares us from bad weather which our taplin/reeds/wooden-poles arrangement cannot contain.

10. We were able to hold on-line services every Sunday during COVID through the gracious free offer of Morris' High 5 Media business.

11. We held a very successful Every Generation Ministry training.

12. Our Life Medical Center introduced a ward for admitting patients, and acquired an ultrasound machine.

GOD HAS BEEN GOOD!!!!!

Alex and Millie send their sincere thanks to all of you for anything you have done to help in their efforts of being the hands and feet of Jesus Uganda throughout 2020!

EVERY GENERATION MINISTRY TRAINING UPDATE

As noted above, our BPC partners underwent training provided by Every Generation Ministry (EGM). Millie Akello sent us the following report:
The training was so profound. EGM's vision of transformation relates to our vision as LWH, We are here to transform lives which will in turn transform others. We are doing all we do to see that all our children are transformed inside out to the glory of Christ and this was the focus of the training .The training took two days. We had with us the pastors with their wives, mentors, children's church facilitators and LWH staff. We had a number of over 40 people attend full days. This was a very great tool for the mentors because EGM encourages relationship with the children, children can not open up to anyone unless they have had a relationship with an individual, Discussion which is what integrates knowledge with experience, Truth which is the word of God, Experience where we are helped to feel what the children feel and Response, in this, a mentor needs to walk slowly with the child to the point where they are able to see transformation. All mentors now have the tool hence have gone to internalize it more so that they are able to help feed and walk each with their children. We believe that this tool will be put in practice and we will see transformation in the lives of all our children.

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN UGANDA

COVID-19 in Africa

The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reporting that Africa must prepare for a second wave of COVID-19. Officials also fear that there will be a huge hit to the economy this year - click here to see Axios.com October 28, 2020 article. Others predict that there will once again be problems with hunger throughout the population unless significant changes are made in how the disease is managed.

Currently close to 28,000 cases have been recorded in Uganda and just over 220 deaths. Daily case rates have grown from around 200 to over 500 each day. Please pray for protection from the disease over our BPC partners and those we serve in Uganda.

Ugandan Elections

On November 19, there was further unrest due to to the upcoming Ugandan elections. Bobi Wine was once again arrested, this time for "...allegedly violating COVID measures at his rallies." 16 people were killed, another 60 were injured and over 350 were arrested. Click here for more details from Deutsche Welle. Millie asked us for prayer on that day as she reported:

"Back here the biggest
presidential opponent in the opposition (Bobi Wine) was viciously arrested, resulting in nationwide riots which the police responded to with excessive force. There were deaths and many injured. Alex and I were in Bombo attending our Wednesday evening prayer meeting. We received a phone call advising us not to get back home coz Wobulenzi was not safe. We drove home anyway but had to go through four fire roadblocks lit up by rioters. A flying stone just missed our windshield. Rioters yelled threats at us. Miraculously we got home safely after 8pm. But the repetitive loud bangs of tear gas and live bullets kept  rocking the air into the night, then the following morning. Scary!! Been home all day today."
