Dear Friends and Align Supporters, Our shared vision with Pastor Alex & Millie Ojera is to “Raise a Godly Generation” : to break the cycle of poverty by educating the next generation which will transform the nation of Uganda by turning it to God. Public schools in Uganda have incredibly high dropout rates. They do not provide children with an education that leads to a path for college or trade school or enable them to compete for the scarce jobs in the country. This is compounded by the fact that the cost of college, trade school or university education is far above what most families in Uganda can afford.
As Ben Carson has said, “If you want a liberate a person, educate a person”. The Scholarship Program through Align International is doing just that. It restores dignity, hope and value to young adults, helping them grow to their full potential and become a successful contributor to their community. Supporters like you have transformed Bombo and other parts of Uganda to make higher education a reality for those who would not otherwise have that as an option.

TWINS BEATING THE ODDS IN BOMBO
Esther and Stephen
Bombo Pentecostal Church leaders met Stephen, Esther, and their mother Mary several years ago after the family had been abandoned by the twins' father. The children had already beaten the odds; they both were healthy and without serious impairment. Due to the lack of medical services in rural Africa, it is common for one twin to suffer complications resulting in physical or mental disabilities or sometimes even death. The Church embraced the struggling family by putting Esther and Stephen up for Life With Hope sponsorship, and hiring Mary as a Life Home Mother. The children have since thrived in their new living environment, and Mary has found joy and purpose through pouring herself into the orphaned and abandoned children in the Life
Home. Now living in the Student Housing near the school, Stephen has learned how to focus on his academics, and his grades have steadily improved. He attends Bombo Pentecostal Church where he serves God by playing jazz music and teaching others how to do the same. Esther is meeting with a counselor to help her deal with the emotions resulting from being abandoned by her father. She is placing her trust in God to move forward, and her school performance continues to improve. Both are excited to see what the future has in store as they move on to post-secondary school!
